“...if ye are prepared ye shall not fear.” D&C 38:30

A friend of mine who also went through Harvey emailed me and included a post she had made to her family out of state on the second day Harvey was pounding Houston.  I asked permission to quote her just in case her words could help someone better see the value of preparedness.  She said:

"The spirit of Christ and goodwill/love is almost tangible.

I also cannot express the peace I feel at being prepared. It has been at great cost - time, money, the sacrifice of other maybe more fun things. But when I can sit by a nice fire, playing games and eating brownies with friends, while a hurricane rages through my glass windows, it is all worth it. We have flood insurance and everything we need. The future is yet unknown, but we are prepared to share and serve and feel no fear. We've prepared and honored covenants, the rest is in the Lord's hands. My heart is full to bursting.

My advice? Pass on buying that new shirt or toys for your kids. Spend that money on gear for your kits or extra cans of food.

Keep doing this as you can. You CAN get prepared. I love you all SO much."

There really IS peace through preparedness.
